Prepare for TMA04 with a half-day seminar dedicated to consolidating what you have learnt about qualitative research methods on DE200.
Please note: we will not be discussing the actual TMA04 during the workshop, and our tutor will not be able to take questions relating directly to the TMA. You should always contact your own tutor in the first instance for any help like this.
Qualitative methods are key to two upcoming assignments in this part of the module (TMA04 and iCMA42), so it is important that you feel comfortable and confident in using these.
This half-day workshop is designed to build your confidence with qualitative methods and will help you to put what you have learned during DE200 into practice.
Sue Nieland has taught with the Open University for 15 years, on most of the undergraduate and, more recently, the new postgraduate modules in psychology. She has taught both DE200 and DE300 since their first presentations and has supervised students for both quantitative and qualitative projects for DE300 and previously on DD307 (Social Psychology) and DD303 (Cognitive Psychology). Sue has also looked after DD210 and DE200 cluster-wide forums, and despite being the moderator for the quantitative methods forum for DE200, is actually a qualitative researcher with a particular interest in phenomenology, critical discourse analysis and the dialogical approach. Sue is soon to take up a Staff Tutor role in the OU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Our seminar will be held in
Birkbeck, University of London,
Malet St (Torrington Square Entrance),
London WC1E 7HX.
We will be using room MAL351.
There is easy access to the building and to all rooms from street level.
Travel and directions
Birkbeck is surrounded by Tube and mainline rail stations, the closest are Russell Square, Tottenham Court Road, King's Cross/St Pancras and Euston.
Many buses pass down nearby Gower Street or go via Russell Square.
Places for this seminar are limited to 60 attendees and we anticipate that these are likely to sell out.
We strongly recommend booking this event in advance and cannot guarantee that places will be available on the day.
